Box Score Brooklyn, N.Y. (April 23, 2017) - Patrick Causa, Dennis Stewart, and Alex Kriss each had multi-hit games while driving in three of the seven runs batted in but Mount St. Mary's dropped series finale at LIU Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon.
Jared Urban advanced home on a throw to second base that tried to catch Tyler Post stealing, for the Mount in the top of the first inning for the first run of the game. The Blackbirds scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning off of a walk with the bases loaded and a sacrifice fly that brought in Anthony Capo to cross the plate.
The Mountaineers added three runs in the top of the third inning to make it a 4-2 game. Vaughn Parker II hit a two RBI double to left centerfield that plated Causa and Post. Two batters later, Stewart hit a single to third base that scored Will Enrico.
Brooklyn scored seven unanswered that made it a 9-4 game headed into the seventh inning. They added one run in the bottom of the fourth, five runs in the bottom of the fifth, and one run in the bottom of the sixth. Edward Modica started the scoring in the fifth with a solo home run to left field that highlighted the inning for LIU.
Mount St. Mary's added two runs of their own in the top of the seventh off of a single by Kriss that plated Stewart and a Causa double to center that scored Sean Kelly to make it a 9-6 ball game.
The Blackbirds added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh and one run in the bottom of the eighth. All the Mount could muster up was two runs in the top of the eighth that fell just short of the comeback. Joshua Lenig hit a pinch hit single that brought Parker and Enrico in to score.
Jordan Lawson (0-7) recorded the loss for the Mountaineers while Patrick Clyne (2-0) picked up the win for the Blackbirds.
Mount St. Mary's returns home for one game against Towson at 3:30 pm.
