Box Score Brooklyn, N.Y. (April 22, 2017) - Patrick Causa, Zach Hostetter, Dennis Stewart and Sean Kelly recorded multi-hit games but a six run inning lifted LIU Brooklyn over Mount St. Mary's 12-10 to even the series on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
In a heated game where both coaches were thrown out of the game in the seventh inning and the benches were cleared, the Mount jumped out to the early 1-0 lead when Causa hit a solo home run in his first at bat for the second day in a row now that brought the first run of the game across the plate. Each team took turns in scoring three runs in an inning. LIU came back and scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and The Mountaineers scored three in the top of the third that made it a 4-3 ball game.
The Blackbirds plated their three runs off of an error, a sacrifice fly, and a single to right field by Dom Paiotti while Mount St. Mary's plated their three runs off of a Tyler Post three run home run to left field that brought in Causa and Jared Urban.
The Mount added four runs in the top of the fourth inning that made the game 8-3 in Mount St. Mary's favor. Stewart doubled to right centerfield that plated Hostetter and Vaughn Parker II while Urban singled later in the inning that scored Stewart.
LIU started the comeback in the bottom of the fourth when they plated three more runs that made them only down by two runs. Edward Modica tripled to centerfield and Andrew Turner singled later in the inning that scored Modica.
Far from done, the Blackbirds added six more runs off of a pair of three run homers in the bottom of the fifth inning that put them out in front with a score of 12-8 headed into the sixth inning. Luis Arias hit one to left field to start the scoring and Turner followed with another one later in the inning.
The Mountaineers added one run in the top of the eighth and top of the ninth but could not climb back to tie the game or take the lead. Hostetter singled to right field that plated Causa in the top of the ninth.
Josh Little (0-2) picked up the loss for the Mountaineers while Jackson Svete (5-1) picked up the win for the Blackbirds.
The series finale will be played tomorrow, April 23 at 1 pm.
