Box Score Greensboro, NC. (March 4,2017) - The Mount St. Mary's baseball team was edged by North Carolina A&T, 4-2, on Saturday. Michael Collins allowed just two earned runs in 4.2 innings pitched while striking out six in the start. Joshua Lenig and Jared Urban each had multi-hit games while driving in Mount St. Mary's only two runs.
The Aggies would score all four of their runs before the Mountaineers could get on the scoreboard. They scored once in the bottom of the third and fifth inning while adding on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to jump out to a 4-0 lead.
With runners on second and third, Milton Rivera grounded out to the second basemen to drive in the first run of the game for NCAT. One more run was tacked on in the bottom of the fifth when Adan Ordonez doubled to center field that plated Greg White. The Aggies would score their last two runs on RBI singles in the sixth from White and Myles Sowell. Sowell finished the day 3-for-4 and White finished 2-for-4 to lead their team to the 4-2 victory. Pitcher Josh Bottenfield went an impressive 8.1 innings allowing just one earned run in the win.
Jared Urban would start to mount a comback for Mount St. Mary's with a RBI single in the top of the ninth to plate Tanner Sampson finishing his outing 2-for-4. The Mount would record one more run in top of the eighth with Joshua Lenig's double to left field that scored Tyler Post but would fall short of the comeback by two runs. Lenig went 3-for-4 in the losing effort.
Michael Collins (0-2) received the loss going 4.2 innings allowing two earned runs while Josh Bottenfield received the win going 8.1 innings only allowing one run.
The teams are set for the last game of the series tomorrow, Sunday, March 4 at 1:00 p.m.
