Emmitsburg, Md. (March 24, 2017) – Freshman Sean Kelly hit his first collegiate home run, on a walk off, that lifted Mount St. Mary's over LIU Brooklyn 8-7 on Friday afternoon. Zach Hostetter, Tyler Post, Patrick Causa, and Vaughn Parker II each had multi-hit games while Hostetter, Post, and Parker each had a home run that led the Mount's offense past the Blackbirds.

Parker started off the scoring in the bottom of the first with a two RBI single that plated Causa and Alex Kriss. LIU evened the score at two apiece in the top of the third inning when Charles Misiano hit a home run to get them on the board. He was followed by Harrison Preschel, who single to left field that scored Dom Paiotti. 

The Blackbirds tacked on another run in the top of the fifth inning but Hostetter gave a 4-3 advantage back to the Mountaineers with a two run home run to left field that scored Joshua Lenig in the bottom half of the fifth. LIU evened the score up again on a home run by Andrew Turner in the top of the sixth.

Post put Mount St. Mary's back up with a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the seventh and Parker added two more runs on his two RBI home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Mount a 7-4 lead going into the ninth.

With two outs, LIU began to mount their come back. Joe Mercadante singled through the right side that plated Anthony Capo and Luis Arias to pull them within one run. Joe Curcio brought Mercadante in to score on a RBI single up the middle to tie the game a 7-7. 

In the bottom of the ninth, Kelly smashed a home run to left field, on the third pitch he saw, to record a 8-7 walk off win for the Mountaineers. 

Zach Call (1-1) picked up the win in the decision for the Mount while Jackson Svete (2-1) picked up the loss for LIU Brooklyn.

These two teams will play the second game of the series tomorrow, March 25 at 1 pm.
