Mount St. Mary's Baseball Clipped By Savannah State In Final Game of Series

Savannah, Georgia (March 11, 2017) - Tyler Post had a multi-hit game with a RBI and Joshua Lenig had a pinch hit two RBI double to lead Mount St. Mary's offense but Savannah State won 9-8 in the final game of the three game series on Saturday afternoon. Trey McGough pitched 4.0 innings, allowed two earned runs, and struck out five batters. 

The Mount jumped out to the early lead once a again on a Brendan Dabagian RBI single to right field that plated Post who led off the top of the second with a single. Dalton Clouser scored later in the inning on a passed ball giving the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead. 

The lead evaporated quickly when the Tigers plated three runs of their own in the bottom of the second giving them a 3-2 lead. Hector Benitez started the scoring with a RBI bunt single that brought home Jorge Lopez for Savannah State's first run of the game. Jalen Atterbury scored on an error to even the game at 2 apiece. Benitez was later plated by Jacob Lightle with a RBI groundout to third giving them a 3-2 lead at the end of the second inning.

Alex Kriss tied the game back up with a RBI double to left center that plated Jared Urban in the top of the fifth inning but the Tigers got that run back in the bottom of the sixth inning when Atterbury singled to leftfield that plated Lopez to regain a 4-3 lead at the end of the fifth. 

Mount St. Mary's erupted for five more runs in the top of the sixth inning but saw that lead dwindle again when Savannah State turned around and scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to once again tie the game at 8. Post started the scoring for the Mount with a RBI double to right field that plated Dennis Stewart

With the game still at 8 apiece, the Tigers came up in the bottom of the ninth and Bryce Lukin delivered a RBI fielder's choice that brought in Khalyd Cox for Savannah State's second walk off victory in a row with a final of 9-8.

Vaughn Parker II (0-1) recorded the loss for the Mount while Gregory Smith (1-0) recorded the win for the Tigers.

The Mountaineers begin conference play as they travel to Central Connecticut for a four game series starting on Friday, March 17 at 3:00 p.m.
