Mount St. Mary's University Freshman Maddie Kole Takes Home First Place at the Cappy Anderson Invitational

Princess Anne, Md. (September 12, 2016)—Mount St. Mary's University freshman cross country runner Maddie Kole took home first place at the Cappy Anderson Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday.

Kole finished the 5-kilometer course with a winning time of 18:21.93, 23 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Sharon Jerop of UMES.  Ashleigh Kocher finished in eight place overall (20:09.17) with Clarke Hooper placing 12th overall.  Jill Greenwald (23rd) and Grace King (25th) rounded out the Mount's top five.

For the men, Nicolas Fransham pace the Mountaineers with a ninth-place finish with a time of 28:56.53 for the 9.2-kilometer course.  Freshman Mitchel Wileczek was right behind Fransham in 10th place with a mark of 29:03.15.  Benjamin Finnigan (17th), Christopher Evans (18th) and Jonathon Johnson (19th) rounded out the Mount's top five.

The Mount women's team finished tied for second place at the meet with Morgan State.  Host UMES was the winning team with 27 points, followed by the Mount and Morgan State, who each had 56 points.  On the men's side, the Mountaineers finished in third place with 70 points, behind Navy (20) and UMES (39).
