Box Score New Britain, Conn. (May 8, 2016) – Mount St. Mary's University baseball fell by an 8-0 final to Sacred Heart in the series finale on Sunday at New Britain Stadium.
John Sostarich picked up the win, tossing six scoreless innings with three strikeouts, and three Pioneers pitched an inning apiece in relief to close out the shutout victory.
Sacred Heart grabbed the contest's first run in the bottom of the second as Alex Perry singled through the left side to score Zack Short. The Pioneers extended their lead to 5-0 with a four-run third frame, highlighted by Keith Klebart's two-run single to center.
Sacred Heart added a pair of runs in the fifth and one in the eighth, and held Mount St. Mary's off the board for the 8-0 victory.
Mount St. Mary's registered six hits in the contest as Josh Lenig and Tanner Sampson both went 1-for-2 and Dalton Clouser picked up a hit in his only at-bat as a pinch hitter. Ryan Owens, Vaughn Parker II and Tyler Post notched the team's other hits.
The Mountaineers return to action for their final series of the season as they take on Bryant in a four-game set beginning on Thursday, May 19 at 3 p.m.
