Box Score 2 Emmitsburg, Md. (May 20, 2016) – Mount St. Mary's University baseball dropped a doubleheader to Bryant, falling 12-1 in the opening tilt and 19-1 in game two as the Mountaineers closed out the 2016 campaign.
Austin Bonadio, Chad Diehl, Connor Graber, Kevin Myers, Ryan Owens, Tommy Quealy and Ben Smallenbroek were honored with a pregame ceremony as part of Senior Day for their contributions to the program and university throughout their careers.
GAME ONE: Bryant 12, Mount St. Mary's 1
The Bulldogs jumped out to a big lead early, scoring nine times in the first inning as they were able to find some holes in the infield. They registered seven hits, including five RBI singles in the big first inning.
Mount St. Mary's scored its run in the bottom of the first as Ryan Owens knocked a leadoff double and Alex Kriss reached on an infield single to setup the inning. After a Vaughn Parker II groundout advanced the runners to second and third, Owens scored on a wild pitch to get the Mount on the board.
The Mountaineer bats were held quiet in the final six frames, and the Bulldogs added three insurance runs in the fifth as they went on for the 12-1 victory.
Brandon Bingel picked up the win, tossing five innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts. Nick Angelini and Buck McCarthy registered two hits and two RBIs apiece to lead the offense.
Kriss went a perfect 3-for-3, while Owens, Parker II and Tyler Post picked up the other hits for the Mountaineers in the contest.
GAME TWO: Bryant 19, Mount St. Mary's 1
James Davitt allowed just two baserunners in five innings of work while striking out five to pick up his seventh win of the season and lead Bryant to the victory in game two.
The Bulldogs opened an early lead for the second straight contest with a big six-run second frame. Angelini and AJ Zarozny each registered two-run doubles to highlight the inning.
Bryant added to its lead with single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, before tallying three in the sixth to extend its lead to 13-1.
The Bulldogs' bullpen held the Mount to one run in four innings, and Zane Smith hit a grand slam in the ninth to cap off the 19-1 Bulldog win.
