Princess Anne, Md. (April 6, 2016) – Starter Chad Diehl yielded no earned runs in five innings of work for Mount St. Mary's, but a five-run sixth inning from UMES propelled the Hawks to a 9-2 victory in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday.

Diehl registered his strongest start of the season, striking out five while allowing just four hits, but the Hawks' pitching staff held the Mount to just three hits in the contest as they were able to collect their eighth win of the year.

The Hawks held a 1-0 lead heading into the sixth before tallying five runs, including four unearned, to take a 6-0 lead. Jamison Trower capped off the big inning for UMES with a two-run single to left field as UMES widened the advantage.

The Mount got two runs back in the top of the seventh as Tyler Post, who led off the frame with a walk, scored on a throwing error by the shortstop, and Patrick Causa touched the plate on a sac fly by Vaughn Parker II. UMES responded with a pair in the bottom of the seventh and one in the eighth to secure the 9-2 win.

Toby Hoskins collected the win for the Hawks, throwing 4.2 innings of scoreless ball and striking out five.
