Box Score Baltimore, Md. (April 20, 2016) -- Vaughn Parker II and Ryan Owens combined for seven RBIs, and seven Mountaineers registered multi-hit games as Mount St. Mary's University scored a season-high 16 runs and rolled to a 16-6 victory at Coppin St. in the final non-conference game of the season for the Mount on Wednesday night.
Parker led the offensive attack with a 3-for-4 night as the freshman picked up a career-high four RBIs. Owens went 2-for-4 with three runs driven in and Tyler Post registered a pair of hits and RBIs.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Mount got the bats going in the top of the second with a trio of RBI doubles. Post led off the frame with a walk before Parker II, Patrick Causa and Zach Call ripped consecutive doubles to knock in a run apiece and put the Mount on top, 3-1.
The Eagles cut their deficit to 3-2 with a tally in the bottom half of the second, but Post hit the Mount's fourth RBI double of the game in the next inning to stretch the lead back to two, 4-2.
In the top of the fifth, the first three Mountaineers reached as Owens and Alex Kriss stroked singles and Zach Hostetter walked to load the bases with nobody out. After a pop up for the first out, Parker II worked a walked to push Owens across and give the Mount a 5-2 advantage.
Coppin St. scored a pair in the bottom half of the fifth to cut the deficit to one, but the Mount exploded for seven runs in the sixth, including a three-run bases-clearing triple from Owens, to extend its lead to 12-4.
The Mountaineers added two more in the seventh and two in the ninth as they closed out the 16-6 victory.
Chad Diehl picked up the win, going four innings with five strikeouts and just one earned run allowed.
The Mountaineers return to Northeast Conference action with a four-game series at Wagner beginning this Friday, April 22. Opening pitch in game one is slated for 3 p.m.
