Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (April 17, 2016) – Hunter Shuff tossed six strong innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out four, but Mount St. Mary's University was edged by Fairleigh Dickinson, 1-0, in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
Shuff registered his third straight outing allowing two earned runs or less, and has now yielded just four earned runs in his last 17 innings. Michael Kuypers, who came on in relief of Shuff, allowed just one hit in three scoreless innings.
Logan Frati went the distance for Fairleigh Dickinson, throwing a complete game shutout with 12 strikeouts and just four hits allowed.
The Mount threatened in the bottom of the second as a double to left by Patrick Causa put runners at second and third with one out. Frati battled, getting a pair of strikeouts to work out of the jam and keep the Mountaineers off the board.
In the bottom of the third with two outs, Dylan Sprague was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a balk by Shuff. Matt McCann knocked in Sprague with an RBI single to left center, which proved to be the game-winning tally.
Causa went 2-for-3 in the game with a double, and Tyler Post and Tommy Quealy picked up a hit apiece for the Mount's other two knocks in the contest.
The Mountaineers hit the road for their final non-conference game of the season as they take on Coppin St. on Wednesday, April 20 at 6 p.m.
