Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Emmitsburg, Md (April 16, 2016) – Chad Diehl tossed six innings of two-run ball and Vaughn Parker II knocked in three runs to lift Mount St. Mary's University to a 5-2 victory in game two of the doubleheader with Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday at Straw Family Stadium. FDU posted a 4-1 win in the opening game as the teams split the doubleheader.

GAME ONE: Fairleigh Dickinson 4, Mount St. Mary's 1

Mount St. Mary's grabbed an early 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Ryan Owens doubled to lead off the frame, and Alex Kriss followed with a single to left to put the Mount in business with runners on the corners and nobody out. With Zach Hostetter at-bat, Kriss was thrown out attempting to steal second, but Owens was able to score on the play for the first run of the game.

The Knights took the lead in the fifth after Evan McDonald scored on a wild pitch and Jason Fatzinger singled through the right side to score Bobby Romano and give FDU a 2-1 advantage.

Fairleigh Dickinson tacked on singles runs in the sixth and seventh innings, and Chris Kachmar finished up his complete game as the Knights went on for a 4-1 win.

Kachmar allowed just one earned run in seven innings while striking out nine to pick up his fifth win of the season.

GAME TWO: Mount St. Mary's 5, Fairleigh Dickinson 2

The Mount struck early in game two, scoring a pair in the first and one in the second to jump out to a 3-0 advantage. Zach Hostetter and Parker II knocked run-scoring singles in the opening frame, and Ryan Owens recorded an RBI groundout in the second to stake the team to an early lead.

Fairleigh Dickinson trimmed its deficit to 3-2 in the fourth on a long two-run homer to left from Ryan Brennan, but Mount St. Mary's responded with a pair in the fifth on a two-run single up the middle from Parker II.

Diehl pitched a clean sixth inning, and Michael Kuypers came in to close it out with a scoreless seventh to collect his second save of the year and secure the 5-2 win for the Mount.

Diehl went six strong, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out three to earn his second win of the season.

Parker went 2-for-3 in the contest with a career-high three RBIs, while Alex Kriss (3-for-4) and Owens (2-for-4) also registered multi-hit games.
