Mount St. Mary's Baseball Falls to Fairleigh Dickinson in Series Opener

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 15) – Fairleigh Dickinson pounded out 21 hits and took the series opener by a 17-2 margin over Mount St. Mary's University on Friday afternoon at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.

John Giakas registered four RBIs, while four other Knights collected two apiece on the day. Rookie Tim Quinn allowed two earned runs in seven innings of work to pick up the victory on the mound.

Fairleigh Dickinson scored seven runs in the top of the first, including five unearned, to take the early advantage. Giakas provided the punch in the frame with a three-run homer to left, his team-leading sixth of the season.

Mount St. Mary's got a pair back, scoring single runs in the second and third innings. Patrick Causa led off the second with a double to center and Joshua Lenig followed with an RBI single to right center to get the Mount on the board. In the next inning, Vaughn Parker II knocked a single up the middle to score Tyler Post and give the Mount its second run of the contest.

After tallying a pair in the top of the third, the Knights added four more in the fourth to widen their advantage to 13-2. Shane Siebler's two-run double to left highlighted the inning for Fairleigh Dickinson.

The Knights grabbed four more runs in the final two innings, and Nick Cuono pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to close out the 17-2 win for FDU.

The two teams are back in action tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
