Box Score Asheville, N.C. (March 5, 2016) – UNC Asheville tallied six runs in the first three innings and Jordan Fulbright threw eight innings of two-run ball on the mound as the Bulldogs topped Mount St. Mary's by an 8-2 final on Saturday.
Shortstop Patrick Causa and outfielder Ryan Owens led the way for the Mount, each posting 2-for-4 days in the loss. Joe Tietjen and Pete Guy paced the Bulldog offense with a pair of RBI apiece.
Fulbright tossed eight innings, allowing just two runs and striking out six to grab the victory. Connor Graber took the loss for the Mount, yielding six earned in 2.2 innings.
Guy opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first, and Tietjen followed with an RBI single in the second to push the lead to 3-0. Carmine Pagano and Lucas Owens knocked in runs in the bottom half of the third to extend the UNC Asheville lead to 6-0.
The Mount got on the board in the top of the fourth as a single from Causa drove in Pat Daly for the team's first run. Tyler Post followed with a sacrifice fly to center to score Zach Hostetter as the Mount cut its deficit to 6-2.
Fulbright and Tyler Hughes held the Mountaineers scoreless in the final five innings, and the Bulldogs added a pair of insurance runs to close out the 8-2 victory.
The Mount and Asheville wrap up the three-game series with a game on Sunday, March 6 at 1 p.m.
