Mount St. Mary's Baseball Downed by Wagner in Doubleheader

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 25, 2016) – Mount St. Mary's University baseball dropped a pair of games against Wagner in Northeast Conference action on Friday at E.T. Straw Family Stadium by finals of 17-4 and 14-6. Rookies Alex Kriss and Patrick Causa each went deep in the opening game of the doubleheader.

GAME 1: Wagner 17, Mount St. Mary's 4

The Seahawks grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Mount responded with a pair in the second on Causa's first career home run. Causa's drive to left field brought home Vaughn Parker II to put the Mount on top, 2-1.

Wagner evened the game in the third, and added seven runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 9-2 advantage. The Mount trimmed its deficit to 9-4 in the bottom half of the fifth on a two-run homer to right center by Kriss. The home run for Kriss was also the first of his career.

Wagner scored eight more times in the seventh, and Cory Heitler closed out the victory with his second scoreless frame in the bottom half of the inning as the Seahawks went on for the 17-4 victory.

Mike Adams worked 5.0 innings, allowing four runs while striking out four to pick up his first win of the season. Hunter Shuff struck out a pair and allowed six earned in 4.1 innings of work in his second career start for the Mount.   

GAME 2: Wagner 14, Mount St. Mary's 6

Wagner scored 13 runs in the first three innings, including a six-run second, to jump out to the big lead early. Anthony Harrold highlighted the second frame with a three-run jack to right field.

The Mount registered a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings to cut the Wagner lead to 13-4. A run-scoring triple by Kriss and RBI groundout from Zach Hostetter put the Mount on the board in the third, and Tommy Quealy followed with an RBI single in the fourth to close the gap.

The Mountaineers scored two more in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double to right-center by Ryan Owens and RBI groundout from Kriss, but the Seahawks held off the Mount in the final inning to secure the 14-6 win.

Neil Abbatiello grabbed the win for Wagner, going 5.0 innings with five strikeouts and two earned runs.
