Tyler Post's Career Day Powers Mount Baseball in Doubleheader at Fairleigh Dickinson

Teacneck, N.J. (March 19, 2016) – First baseman Tyler Post hit a pair of homers and registered a career-high eight RBI, tying the program's DI record for most RBI in a game, to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 13-6 win over Fairleigh Dickinson in game one of Saturday's doubleheader at Naimoli Complex. Logan Frati threw a complete game shutout in game two as the Knights earned the split with a 6-0 win.

GAME ONE: Post hit a solo homer in the second and added a grand slam in the fifth as the Mount put up its highest run total of the season with 13. The Mountaineers tallied 11 runs in the final three innings, including a six-run fifth, to seal the victory.

Post went 3-for-4 in the contest with all three knocks going for extra bases. Tommy Quealy also added three hits in the game, while Ryan Owens, Vaughn Parker, Zach Hostetter and Pat Daly registered two hits apiece. Hunter Shuff got the start on the mound, striking out three and allowing four runs in 3.2 innings of work.

The Knights got an RBI apiece from six different batters, including John Giakas and Evan McDonald, who posted two hits each. Righty John Chalupa took the loss, surrendering seven runs in 4.1 innings.

After going down 2-0 in the first, the Mount scored a solo run in the second and third frames to tie the game at 2-2. Post roped his first homer of the game in the top of the second to center field, and Patrick Causa knocked in Parker with a sac fly in the third to pull the team even.

The Mount headed into the top of the fifth trailing by a pair before tallying six runs in the frame to take an 8-4 advantage. A grand slam from Post for his second of the game put the team ahead, and Owens added an RBI single later in the inning as the Mount gabbed control of the game.

Post capped off his career day with a two-run double down the left field line in the sixth and a bases loaded RBI walk in the seventh to seal the victory for the Mountaineers.

Ben Smallenbroek was credited with the win as he closed out the fourth inning before the big Mount rally in the fifth, and Michael Kuypers added 2.1 innings of scoreless ball with a pair of strikeouts in relief.

GAME TWO: Frati struck out 11 and allowed just four hits to secure the complete game shutout and earn a split for Fairleigh Dickinson as the Knights collected a 6-0 victory.

The Knights grabbed a run in the first and three in the second to open a 4-0 lead after two innings of play. Patrick McClure knocked in a pair and McDonald drove in one with RBI singles to lead FDU in the early going.

Matt McCann hit a sac fly RBI in the sixth and Giakas added a run-scoring single in the eighth for insurance runs. Frati stranded a pair of Mount runners in the final inning to close out the 6-0 win.

McClure, McDonald and Jose DeLeon registered two hits apiece, and McClure and Giakas added a pair of RBI each to lead the Knights' offense.

Connor Graber took the loss on the mound for Mount St. Mary's, yielding five runs in 5.2 innings and striking out four.

UP NEXT: The Mount heads to UMES for a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 22. Opening pitch in game one is set for 1 p.m.
