Mount St. Mary's Baseball Drops 2-0 Decision to Buffalo

Box Score

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 13, 2016) – Freshman lefty Pat Daly struck out five in four innings of work on the mound while allowing no earned runs, but Mount St. Mary's University dropped a 2-0 decision to Buffalo on Sunday at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.

Charlie Sobieraski went six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts for Buffalo to pick up his second victory of the season, and Mike Kaelin grabbed the save with one scoreless inning of work.

The Bulls registered the first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning as Ben Haefner crossed the plate on a wild pitch. The run was unearned as Haefner was able to advance earlier in the inning on a passed ball.

The Bulls added another in the top of the fifth to push their advantage to 2-0. With one out, Eddie Edwards walked and Alex Thrower reached on a Mount error, before Bobby Sheppard singled to load the bases. Haefner then grounded to first baseman Vaughn Parker, who got the force out at home for the second out. With the bases still loaded, Vinny Mallaro worked a walk to push across the Bulls' second run.

In the bottom of the sixth, Zach Call opened the frame with a leadoff walk, and Dalton Clouser followed with a double to the left-center field gap. Call lost his footing coming around third base and was eventually forced out in a rundown for the first out of the inning. Sobieraski was able to get the final two outs of the frame to hold the Mount scoreless.

Kaelin gave a hit to Parker in the final inning, but held the Mountaineers off the board to close out the 2-0 Buffalo victory.

Rookie Hunter Shuff pitched three innings in relief for the Mount, striking out one and allowing no earned runs. Parker, Clouser and Tyler Post picked up a hit apiece, with Clouser's double going for the only extra-base hit of the contest.

The second game of the doubleheader was postponed and will be made up on Monday (March 14), with opening pitch set for 3:30 p.m.
