ABOUT THE MOUNT
The Mountaineers opened the 2016 season this past weekend with a trio of games at Jacksonville. The Mount dropped all three games, but junior outfielder Zach Hostetter went 6-for-11 in the series with two runs and three RBI to lead the offense, and senior outfielder Ryan Owens added four hits in 12 at-bats and a pair of runs and RBI. Lefty Chad Diehl allowed just one earned run in 3.2 innings in the final game on the hill for the Mount, and closer Jordan Lawson struck out three in the final three innings while allowing just one run.

Mount St. Mary's bolstered its roster for the 2016 campaign with the addition of 13 new players. Pitchers Michael Kuypers (Chalfont, Pa.), Josh Little (Thurmont, Md.), Nathan Seltsam (Calgary, Alberta) and Hunter Shuff (Beaver Springs, Pa.), pitcher/outfielder Pat Daly (Toano, Va.), catcher Will Enrico (Camp Hill, Pa.), infielders Patrick Causa (Sinking Spring, Pa.), Dalton Clouser (Lewisberry, Pa.), Alex Kriss (Forest, Hill, Md.), Sarunas Matalavage (Manchester, Md.) and Vaughn Parker II (Frederick, Md.) and outfielders Dennis Stewart (Burlington Township, N.J.) and Chris Wessels (Columbia, Md.) each enter their first season with the Mountaineers.
ABOUT WAKE FOREST
The Demon Deacons opened the season with four straight wins over Georgetown, UMBC, VMI and Davidson before dropping two of three at No. 21 USC over the weekend. Infielder Will Craig leads the team with a .360 average, two homers and 12 RBI through the first seven games, and Kevin Conway (.346) and Nate Mondou (.304) are the other two Demon Deacons hitting over .300 on the season. Christian Bartholomew, who's allowed one earned run in 3.2 inning on the year, is set to make the start on the bump.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The meeting on Wednesday will mark the first-ever matchup between the Mountaineers and Demon Deacons.
