Maddie Kole Wins NEC Freshman of the Year while Nicolas Fransham Earns All-NEC Honors at Northeast Conference Cross Country Championships

Loretto, Pa. (October 29, 2016)—Mount St. Mary's University freshman Maddie Kole earned Northeast Conference Freshman of the Year honors after finishing as the top freshman at the Northeast Conference Championships, hosted by Saint Francis University today.  Nicolas Fransham earned All-NEC honors to pace the men's team to a fourth-place finish at the meet.  The Mount women finished sixth.

Kole completed the five-kilometer course in a time of 20:05.8 to finish in seventh place overall at the meet to earn All-NEC honors.  She is the first Mountaineer to earn All-NEC honors in cross country since Stephanie Borland and Kristen Galligan did in 2013.

Clarke Hooper (36th, 21:43.8), Ashleigh Kocher (38th, 21:47.8), Jill Greenwald (57th, 23:47.0) and Eylee Earle (59th, 24:05.0) rounded out the Mount's top five.

Saint Francis University won the meet with 56 points, followed by Central Connecticut (63), Sacred Heart (76), Bryant (97), Robert Morris (147), the Mount (176), Fairleigh Dickinson (202), St. Francis Brooklyn (207), Wagner (218) and LIU Brooklyn (247).

Fransham, a sophomore, led the Mountaineer men's team, finishing 12th overall at the meet to earn All-NEC honors.  He is the first Mountaineer to earn All-NEC honors on the men's side since Tommy Gruschow and Chris Swisko did in 2012.  He completed the eight-kilometer course in a time of 28:16.8.

Freshman Mitchel Wileczek finished 21st in a time of 29:37.8 with teammate Chris Evans finishing right behind in 22nd overall with a mark of 29:44.9.  Thomas Selishev (29th, 30:12.0) and Benjamin Finnigan (41st, 31:09.6) rounded out the Mount's top five.

Central Connecticut took home first place in the men's meet with 43 points, followed by Sacred Heart (53), Saint Francis U (69), the Mount (120), Wagner (145), Bryant (151), St. Francis Brooklyn (154) and Fairleigh Dickinson (204).
