Mount St. Mary's Women's Soccer Clipped by High Point, 2-1

Box Score

Emmitsburg, Md. (August 30, 2015)--The Mount St. Mary's University women's soccer team was clipped by High Point, 2-1, on a warm Sunday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium on campus.  Senior Emma Blair (Shillington, Pa.) provided the Mount with an early lead with her team-leading second goal of the year.

The Mountaineers (0-4) grabbed the early lead on Blair's ninth career goal just 5:24 into the game.  Freshman Gianna Pomykacz (Williamstown, N.J.) made a nice run, breaking in on the right side of the goal.  Her pass to the middle of the box found Blair, who converted the shot.

The Panthers (2-0-2), coming off a 2-2 time at Towson on Friday night, evened the score in the 25th minutes.  High Point was awarded a free kick deep into Mount territory near the left corner flag.  Taylor Romano took the kick and found Bri Jean-Charles on the far post.  Jean-Charles collected the ball and put the shot past Mount starting goalkeeper Quinn Costello-Mays (Woodbridge, Va.).

High Point took the lead two minutes later on a goal from Bailey Beattie.  Receiving a pass from Annie Redovian, Bailey lofted a cross from 25 yards out that found the upper right corner of the goal to put the Panthers ahead, 2-1.

The Mountaineers best scoring chance in the second half came when Nikki Pinto (West Deptford, N.J.) broke free on the left side, but had her shot stopped by Emily Lyon in the 60th minute.

Lyon also had a nice stop in the first half when she came out on to make a save on Blair, who had broke free on a 1-on-1 situation.

High Point held a 21-to-11 edge in shots in the game, but the teams each registered six shots on goal.  Costello-Mays made one save in the first half for the Mount while senior Rachel Bourne (Baltimore, Md.) did not allow a goal while posting three saves in the second half.  Lyon tallied five saves for High Point.

The Mountaineers return to action on Friday, September 4, when Bucknell visits Waldron Family Stadium for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
