Mount St. Mary's Baseball Falls to Wagner on Sunday as the Teams Split the Four-Game Series

Box Score

Emmitsburg, Md. (May 3, 2015)--Andrew Clow (Bel Air, Md.) hit a pair of home runs, but it was not enough as Wagner slugged its way to a 20-6 win over Mount St. Mary's in the final game of the four-game series at E.T. Straw Family Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks scored three times in the top of the first inning to take the lead.  Trey Nicosia, who went 5-for-7 in the game, scored on a wild pitch, and Anthony Godino added a two-run double.

Mount St. Mary's (11-27, 9-11 NEC) answered back with three runs in the bottom of the frame to even the score.  Ryan Owens (Burke, Va.) led off with a single to center field, and Clow followed by driving the ball over the center field fence to cut the gap to 3-2.  Kory Britton (Columbia, Md.) doubled to the gap in right center field, and he scored on a Brian Parreira (Annapolis, Md.) two-out RBI single to center to even the score.

Wagner (23-17-1, 11-5 NEC) regained the lead in the top of the second on a Nick Mascelli RBI double, and added two more runs in the fourth to make it 6-3.  The Seahawks salted the game away by scoring four runs in the sixth, and seven more in the seventh, to stretch the lead to 17-3.

The Mount tallied three runs in the bottom of the eighth.  Clow led off with a home run to left, his second home run of the game.  It is the 27th time that a Mount player has had two or more home runs in a game in the Division I era (since 1989), the last time by Tom Healy on April 28, 2013, against Fairleigh Dickinson.  Britton doubled and moved to third on a Zach Hostetter (Lebanon, Pa.) base hit.  Tyler Post (Brookeville, Md.) hit a sacrifice fly to score Britton, and Joshua Lenig (Dumfries, Va.) added an RBI single for the Mount's final two runs.

Wagner's Jason Gordon hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth to round out the scoring.

Britton went 3-for-5 with a pair of runsscored while Clow was 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in the game.  Owens added a 2-for-5 day as well for the Mountaineers.

Nicosia went 5-for-7 with three runs scored, Gordon was 4-for-5 with four runs scored, and Sean Mazzio 4-for-6 with four RBI for Wagner, which belted out 24 hits in the victory.

Chad Diehl (Westminster, Md.) took the loss for the Mount, allowing six runs and 12 hits in five innings of work.

Paul Mammino earned the win for Wagner, pitching 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.  Mammino came on for starter Max Schmardel with two outs in the top of the fifth after Schmardel was hit in the leg by a Britton line drive.

The Mountaineers return to action on Monday, May 11, when they host Towson at 11:00 a.m. at E.T Straw Family Stadium.
