Box Score Teaneck, N.J. (May 17, 2015)—Mount St. Mary's lost to Fairleigh Dickinson, 8-4, on Sunday afternoon in a winner-take-all showdown for the final spot in the Northeast Conference Tournament. The Mount scored four times in the top of the first, but was unable to hold on for the victory.
The Mountaineers (12-31, 10-14 NEC) had a big two-out rally in the top of the first to take the lead. With two outs and no one on base, Kory Britton and Zach Hostetter notched back-to-back doubles to give the Mount a 1-0 advantage. After Brian Parreira walked, Jay Knight came through with a clutch hit, slamming a three-run homer to right field to put the Mount ahead by four runs.
Fairleigh Dickinson (20-24, 11-13 NEC) fought back to even the score with a run in the bottom of the second and three more in the third.
Patrick McClure broke the tie with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning off Jordan Lawson to give FDU a 5-4 advantage. The Knights added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth on a Ryan Brennan double that cleared the bases.
Chad Diehl started for the Mount, allowing four runs in two-plus innings of work. Lawson took the loss despite allowing just two hits and one run in 3.2 innings of relief. Scott Nickerson (1.2 IP, 3ER) and Michael Collins (0.2 IP, 0ER) also saw action out of the bullpen for the Mount.
Logan Frati, who earned the save in game one of the series, tossed a complete game with six strikeouts to earn the win for FDU.
Britton and Parreira each had two hits for the Mount in the game. Brennan went 2-for-5 with five RBI for FDU.
