Box Score

Emmitsburg, Md. (May 11, 2015)--The Mount St. Mary's baseball team dropped its final non-conference game of the season to Towson, 10-2, at E.T. Straw Family Stadium this afternoon.  The Mountaineers used nine different pitchers in their final tune-up before this weekend's key Northeast Conference (NEC) series at Fairleigh Dickinson.

Towson scored four times in the top of the first inning to take the lead.  A.J. Gallo belted a solo home run while Brady Policelli added a three-run shot to left center field to stake the Tigers to the lead.

The Mountaineers (11-28) chipped away at the lead with single runs in the second and third innings to cut the deficit to 4-2.  In the second, Tommy Quealy's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) sacrifice fly to right scored Jay Knight (Frederick, Md.) to get the Mount on the scoreboard.  In the third, Brian Parreira (Annapolis, Md.) doubled home Zach Hostetter (Lebanon, Pa.) to make it a two-run game.

Gallo connected for a two-run homer in the top of the seventh while the Tigers (16-33-2) broke the game open with four unearned runs in the top of the eighth.

Chad Diehl (Westminster, Md.) started for the Mount, allowing four runs in one inning of work.  Ben Smallenbroek (Davidsonville, Md.), Noah Smith (Irwin, Pa.), Nick DeCarlo (Montgomery Village, Md.), Scott Nickerson (Annapolis, Md.) and Michael Collins (Mercersburg, Pa.) each followed with a scoreless inning of work.  Andrew Clow (Bel Air, Md.) struck out the side in the top of the ninth for the Mountaineers.

Ryan Owens (Burke, Va.), Clow, Parreira, Knight and Brendan Dabagian (Media, Pa.) each had a hit for the Mount in the game.

Gallo finished 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI while Colin Dyer and Colin Gimblet each had three hits for Towson in the win.  David Sapp earned the win, allowing two unearned runs in five innings of work.

The Mountaineers are back in action this weekend with a four-game NEC series at Fairleigh Dickinson starting with a 3:00 p.m. matchup on Friday.  The Mount will clinch a spot in the NEC Tournament with two wins in the four-game set.
