Box Score Fairfax, Va. (April 7, 2015)—Mount St. Mary's fell at George Mason, 8-0, in a non-conference matchup at Spuhler Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Mount was held to four hits in the game.
George Mason took the early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Luke Willis led off with a double and Michael Smith walked to put runners on first and second. Brandon Gum's single up the middle scored Willis for a 1-0 George Mason lead. Smith then scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
The Patriots (12-17) added to the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Tyler Nelin doubled down the left field line to drive home the first run while the second scored on a Mount St. Mary's error.
George Mason closed out the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 8-0.
Jay Knight (Frederick, Md.) went 1-for-3 with a stolen base while Zach Hostetter (Lebanon, Pa.) was 1-for-4 with a double for the Mount (4-17). Brendan Dabagian (Media, Pa) went 1-for-2 with Ryan Owens (Burke, Va.) going 1-for-3 in the loss.
Scott Nickerson (Annapolis, Md.) started for the Mount, allowing four runs (three earned) in four innings. Austin Bonadio (Newtown, Conn.) pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief while Noah Smith (Irwin, Pa.) chipped in a scoreless inning for the Mount.
The Mountaineers are back in action on Friday, April 10, at LIU Brooklyn in the first game of a four-game Northeast Conference series.
GAME NOTES: The Mount is now 2-9 all-time against George Mason since moving to NCAA Division I in 1989…The Mount's last win against George Mason was a 5-4 road victory on March 13, 2007.
