MOUNT UPDATE: Mount St. Mary's was swept in its four-game Northeast Conference series at Bryant last weekend. Kory Britton was on fire at the plate in the final three games of the series, going 9-for-12 (.750). The Mount dropped a heart-breaker in game two, seeing an 8-2 sixth-inning lead slip away in a 10-9 loss in eight innings. The Mount scored six times in the top of the first of the fourth game, but Bryant rallied for a 14-9 victory. Britton leads the Mount and the Northeast Conference with a .396 average while Andrew Clow is hitting .381. Chris Campbell has emerged as the Mount's top starter, going 2-1 with a 2.20 ERA in nine appearances (four starts) this season.
ABOUT THE PIONEERS: Sacred Heart held off Fairfield, 10-9, on Wednesday to improve to 13-19-1 on the season. The Pioneers are tied for first place in the Northeast Conference with a 6-2 league mark after taking three of four games in their series with Fairleigh Dickinson and LIU Brooklyn. Jayson Sullivan leads Sacred Heart with a .304 average. Victor Sorrento (.257, 3HR, 18 RBI) and Zack Short (.246, 5HR, 16 RBI) are also key contributors on offense. On the mound, James Cooksey is 5-1 with a 3.40 ERA in 15 appearances while Jesus Medina is 2-0 with a 2.36 ERA in eight appearances (four starts).
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: Mount St. Mary's took the final three games of last year's four-game series, and is now 15-32 all-time against the Pioneers. The Mount's 2-1 win in the opening game of last year's Saturday twinbill snapped a 15-game losing streak to Sacred Heart. The Pioneers have won the past eight matchups at E.T. Straw Family Stadium with the last home win for the Mount against Sacred Heart a 10-6 win on May 16, 2009.
NEC BATTING RACE: Kory Britton and Andrew Clow are currently first and second, respectively, in the Northeast Conference in batting average. Britton leads the way with a .396 average, Clow is second with a .381 mark with Bryant's Matt Alabanese is third with a .363 average. Last year, Clow finished second in the NEC batting race with a .3688 average, just .0005 behind LIU's Bobby Webb, who won the batting crown with a .3693 average. In 2013, Tom Healy hit .380 to win the Mount's lone batting title since the school joined the NEC in 1989-90.
CLOW'S DEFENSE: Mount St. Mary's catcher Andrew Clow has thrown out 17-of-40 (.425) base stealers this season, good for 13th in the nation. Clow has been even better of late, throwing out 10 of the past 17 (.588) base stealers.
BRITTON CATCHES FIRE AT PLATE: Senior shortstop Kory Britton has caught fire at the plate, hitting a team-best .466 over the past 16 games. Britton has hit a pair of home runs and drove in a team-best 15 runs over that span. He has 12 multiple-hit games this season, including three four-hit efforts.
CLOW DOUBLING UP: Senior catcher Andrew Clow leads the Mount with 11 doubles this season. Clow is second on the team with a .381 average and he has an NEC-best nine doubles in league games. Clow, who is hitting .426 over the past 12 games, has 15 multiple-hit games this season.
CAREER CHARTS: Senior shortstop Kory Britton is hitting .363 this season while starting all 26 games. Britton is fourth all-time at the Mount with a career .342 average (80-for-234)…Fellow senior Andrew Clow leads the Mount with a .392 average, and he is currently 11th all-time at the Mount with a career .326 average (155-for-475)…Clow's 155 career hits are 11th all-time at the Mount, and he needs five to move past Dennis Jenks (1995-98, 159) into 10th place…Jay Knight has seven steals this year and now has a school-record 47 in his career…On the mound, Chris Campbell is third all-time with a 3.97 career ERA (88.1 IP) and fourth all-time in opponent batting average (.271).

DIEHL NAMED CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Mount St. Mary's junior left-hander was been named the Northeast Conference baseball Co-Pitcher of the Week on April 13. Diehl tossed seven scoreless innings in the Mount's 12-2 win over LIU Brooklyn on April 12. Diehl allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out four in his seven scoreless innings of work. Diehl is the second Mount pitcher to earn NEC weekly honors, joining Jordan Lawson (Camp Hill, Pa.), who won the award last week. This is the first time the Mount has had two different NEC Pitchers of the Week in the same season since Kent Worthington and Mike Matta in 2010.
