Smithfield, R.I. (April 17, 2015)--The Mount St. Mary's baseball team opened its four-game Northeast Conference series at Bryant with a 9-1 loss on Friday afternoon.  Brian Parreira (Annapolis, Md.) had two hits for the Mount in the game.

The Bulldogs (11-16, 3-2 NEC) took an early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning.  A.J. Zarozny's double drove home the first run while Buck McCarthy singled up the middle to plate Zarozny.

McCarthy homered to lead off the bottom of the fourth, and the Bulldogs added a run on a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 4-0.

The Mount (6-21, 4-5 NEC) scored in the top of the fifth.  Tommy Quealy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) reached on an error and moved to second on a wild pitch.  Ryan Owens (Burke, Va.) singled to put runners on the corners.  A double-play followed with Quealy scoring on the play to make it 4-1.

Bryant scored three times in the fifth and two more in the seventh to secure the victory.

Mount St. Mary's starter Thomas Williams (Bowie, Md.) allowed seven runs in 5.2 innings to take the loss.  Noah Smith (Irwin, Pa.) pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

Kyle Wilcox earned the win for Bryant, allowing an unearned run in eighth innings of work.  McCarthy went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI while John Mullen added three hits in the win.

The teams continue the four-game series tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
