Box Score Baltimore, Md. (April 15, 2015)--The Mount St. Mary's University baseball team dropped a non-conference game at UMBC, 20-5, on Wednesday night at Alumni Field. Andrew Clow (Bel Air, Md.) went 2-for-5 at the plate for the Mount in the loss.
The Mount (6-20) started the game on the right note, scoring five times in the top of the first inning. Ryan Owens (Burke, Va.) reached on an error, Clow singled, and Kory Britton (Columbia, Md.) walked to load the bases with no outs. After an out, Tyler Post (Brookeville, Md.) singled to give the Mount a 1-0 advantage. Zach Call (Calvert, Md.) then walked to force home the second run, and the Mount made it 3-0 on a Joshua Lenig (Dumfries, Va.) RBI groundout. Brendan Dabagian (Media, Pa.) singled to drive home two more runs to stretch the lead to 5-0.
The Retrievers (15-13) got right back in the game by scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. Vince Corbi had a two-run double in the inning.
UMBC added four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 9-5 advantage. Hunter Dolsun's RBI single snapped the tie ahead of a Corbi sacrifice fly. Mark Esposito's two-run single gave the Retrievers a four-run advantage. UMBC added a single run in the fifth and scored 10 times in the seventh to round out the scoring.
Clow was the lone Mount player to record a multiple-hit game, going 2-for-5 in the loss. Noah Smith (Irwin, Pa.) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings of relief out of the Mount bullpen.
Corbi went 4-for-5 with seven runs batted in for UMBC in the win.
The Mount returns to action on Friday, April 17, with the first game of a four-game Northeast Conference series at Bryant.
