Box Score Brooklyn, N.Y. (April 12, 2015)-- Kory Britton (Columbia, Md.) went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 12-2 win over LIU Brooklyn in the final game of a four-game Northeast Conference series on Sunday. The Mount broke the game open with eight runs in the third inning to earn a split in the series.
Britton provided the big hit in the top of the first, belting a three-run homer to give the Mountaineers the early 3-0 lead. Jay Knight (Frederick, Md.) was hit by a pitch and Ryan Owens (Burke, Va.) singled to put runners on first and second to open the inning. After an out, Britton connected for his first home run of the year.
The Mount (6-19, 4-4 NEC) scored eight runs in the third to take control of the game. Andrew Clow (Bel Air, Md.) singled and Britton doubled to open the frame. Brian Parreira (Annapolis, Md.) was intentionally walked with one out to load the bases, and Tyler Post (Brookeville, Md.) followed by walking to force home Clow to make it 4-0.
Brendan Dabagian (Media, Pa.) doubled to right to drive home a pair of runs before Tommy Quealy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. Knight singled up the middle to plate a pair of runs. After a wild pitch moved the runners up, Clow singled up the middle for his second hit of the inning to give the Mount a 10-0 advantage. Britton then added his second double of the inning to drive home Clow to stretch the lead to 11-0.
Clow doubled in the eighth and came around to score on a Joshua Lenig (Dumfries, Va.) fielder's choice to make the score 12-0. LIU Brooklyn (11-19, 4-4 NEC) scored a pair of runs in the ninth to break up the Mount's shutout bid.
Chad Diehl (Westminster, Md.) earned the win with seven shutout innings for the Mount. Diehl struck out four while allowing just three hits to improve to 2-3 on the year. Austin Bonadio (Newtown, Conn.) pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs with two strikeouts.
Britton went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs while Clow was 3-for-6 wit a double, three runs scored and two RBI in the win. Knight went 1-for-2 with two runs scored with Quealy going 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Mount.
Mount St. Mary's visits UMBC on Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup before heading to defending NEC champion Bryant next weekend.
GAME NOTES: Clow went 8-for-15 (.533) with five doubles and a .867 slugging percentage in the four-game series...Britton was 6-for-13 (.462) with three doubles and a home run in the series...The Mount had gone 1-11 in their previous 12 games at LIU.
