Box Score Port Charlotte, Fla. (March 4, 2015)—Mount St. Mary's fell to Villanova, 21-4, on Wednesday afternoon in the final game of the team's six-game Florida road trip. The Mount finished the trip with a 2-4 record.
Villanova scored six times in the bottom of the third inning to grab a 6-0 lead. Starter Nick DeCarlo (Montgomery Village, Md.) pitched two scoreless innings before running into trouble in the third. The Wildcats strung together six hits in a row, capped by a Max Beermann three-run homer, to take the lead.
Mount St. Mary's answered with three runs in the top of the fourth to get back into the game. Andrew Clow (Bel Air, Md.) singled and moved to third on a Zach Hostetter (Lebanon, Pa.) two-base hit. Tyler Post (Brookeville, Md.) reached on an error that allowed both runs to score. Zach Call (Calvert, Md.) followed with an RBI double to cut the Villanova lead to 6-3.
Villanova pulled away by scoring three runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to take a 14-3 advantage.
The Mount added a run in the top of the seventh when Brendan Dabagian (Media, Pa.) doubled and Tommy Quealy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) followed with an RBI single.
The Mountaineers are back in action on Friday against Army. The teams will play a doubleheader starting at noon in Morehead City, N.C. The twinbill will featured a seven-inning game followed by a nine-inning contest.
