Box Score Lewisburg, Pa. (March 25, 2015)--The Mount St. Mary's fell to Bucknell, 8-7, in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon. Kory Britton went 4-for-5 with three runs batted in for the Mountaineers in the loss.
The Mount (2-13) built a 7-2 lead midway through the game only to see Bucknell rally for the win. Mount St. Mary's scored a pair of runs in the top of the first to take the early lead. Ryan Owens reached on an error to lead off the game, and Britton knocked him in with an RBI single. Brian Parreira added a two-out double to score Britton for the 2-0 lead.
The Mountaineers pushed its lead to 6-0 with two runs in the second and two more in the top of the fourth inning. In the second, the Mount strung together four consecutive two out singles to make it 4-0. Tommy Quealy and Owens each singled to put runners on first and third. Andrew Clow singled up the middle to score Quealy, and Britton's second hit of the game drove in Owens.
In the fourth, Quealy singled with one out, and he came around to score when Clow reached on an error. Britton followed with an RBI single to give the Mount a 6-0 lead.
Bucknell (14-7) scored a pair of unearned runs off Mount starter Chris Campbell in the bottom of the fourth. The Mount stretched the lead to 7-2 in the sixth when Britton singled with two outs and he scored all the way from first base on Zach Hostetter's double.
The Bison got back into the game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth on a bases loaded walk, and two-run double, and an RBI groundout.
Bucknell scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to complete the rally and earn the win. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with no outs, and the tying run scored on a Brett Smith fielder's choice. Anthony Gingerelli followed with a sacrifice fly to plate the go-ahead run.
Tyler Post led off the ninth with a single for the Mount, but Bucknell got the next three batters to end the game.
Britton went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI in the loss. Ryan Owens added a 2-for-5 day with three runs scored while Clow finished the game 2-for-5 at the plate.
Campbell struck out four while allowing just three hits in five innings of work. He allowed two runs, one earned, in the game. Nick DeCarlo took the loss, allowing two runs in 2.2 innings of relief.
The Mount is back in action with a five-game homestand next week starting on Wed., April 1, against George Washington at E.T. Straw Family Stadium on campus.
