Box Score 2 Bel Air, Md. (March 21, 2015) – In a doubleheader that began on Saturday night and spanned into Sunday morning, the Mount St. Mary's baseball team dropped both games to Jacksonville at the Harford Sports Complex. The Mount fell by scores of 5-2 and 5-3.
Ryan Owens (Burke, Va.) led the Mount's offense with three hits versus the Dolphins.
GAME ONE: Mount St. Mary's starter Thomas Williams (Bowie, Md.) put together a solid outing with six strikeouts while yielding three earned runs on nine hits in 6.2 innings of work, but took the loss in game one for the Mount (2-11).
Jacksonville (11-11) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second before the Mount cut the deficit in half with an RBI double to left center off the bat of Zach Call (Calvert, Md.) in the bottom of the frame.
Both teams tacked on runs in the fourth with Call picking up another RBI for the Mountaineers on a groundout to plate Zach Hostetter (Lebanon, Pa.) from third.
Jacksonville distanced itself from the Mount with single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. The Mount put runners on second base in the sixth and seventh innings, but was not able to close the gap, taking the game one loss.
Out of the bullpen for the Mount, Chris Campbell (Centerville, Va.) did not allow a hit, while picking up two strikeouts in 1.1 innings before Jordan Lawson (Harrisburg, Pa.) closed out the game with a scoreless ninth.
For Jacksonville, Cameron Gibson, JJ Gould and Nathan Koslowski notched two hits apiece. On the bump, Michael Baumann earned the win with eight strikeouts and one earned run in 6.0 innings.
GAME TWO: Despite outhitting the Dolphins by an 11-6 margin in game two, the Mount could not overcome four fielding errors in a 5-3 loss.
The Mount scored the game's first run in the bottom of the second on Kory Britton's (Columbia, Md.) sacrifice fly to left to score Tommy Quealy (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Earlier in the inning, Quealy led off with a single, advanced on an error and took third on a single by Andrew Clow (Bel Air, Md.).
Jacksonville answered with four runs in the top of the second on three hits and three Mount errors. Gibson provided the big hit with a double down the left field line to score two runners. Owens helped the Mount get a run back in the bottom of the second with a triple to right to score Quealy to cut the Dolphins' advantage down to 4-2.
JU's Alex Seifert knocked in the Dolphin's fifth run with an RBI single in the top of the third.
Tyler Post (Brookeville, Md.) kept the Mount's hopes alive with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to allow Brian Parreira (Annapolis, Md.) to touch home, but the Mount's late comeback attempt fell two runs short at 5-3.
Chad Diehl (Westminster, Md.) was tagged with the loss for the Mount despite giving up just one earned run in his four innings. Lawson dominated JU hitters out of the bullpen, striking out five batters while giving up one hit in three scoreless innings of relief.
UP NEXT: The Mount is scheduled to play a single game versus Jacksonville on March 22 at 1 p.m. at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
