Mount St. Mary's Baseball Drops Pair to St. Bonaventure on Sunday

Bel Air, Md. (March 15, 2015)—Mount St. Mary's dropped both games of a doubleheader to St. Bonaventure at the Harford Sports Complex on Sunday.  The Mount dropped the opener 5-2, before falling by the score of 6-3 in the nightcap.  Andrew Clow (Bel Air, Md.) went 4-for-8 at the plate in the twinbill to pace the Mountaineers. 

GAME ONE:  The Mountaineers scored a pair of runs to grab an early 2-0 lead in the opening game of the twin bill.  Jay Knight (Frederick, Md.) led off with a single, stole second, and came around to score on a Clow RBI double to right center field.  Kory Britton (Columbia,  Md.) singled, and Clow then scored on a wild pitch.

The Bonnies scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings to take the lead.  A  Jonathan Diaz sacrifice in the second cut the Mount lead to 2-1.  Dylan Dunn's RBI single in the fourth tied the score, and a squeeze play in the fifth gave the Bonnies the lead.

Aaron Phillips added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh with a two-run single.

Clow went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Mount in the opening game.  Starting pitcher Thomas Williams (Bowie, Md.) allowed five runs (four earned) with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.  Kevin Myers (LaVale, Md.) pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Steven Klimek allowed two runs in eight innings to earn the win for St. Bonaventure. Dunn went 3-for-4 while Phillips was 2-for-4 with three RBI in the win.

GAME TWO:  After allowing an unearned run in the top of the first, the Mount struck for three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead.  Britton led off with a double to right center, and Zach Hostetter (Lebanon, Pa.) followed with a triple down the right field line to tie the scoreBrian Parreira (Annapolis, Md.) then cracked a two-run homer over the right field fence to give the Mountaineers a 3-1 advantage.

St. Bonaventure regained the lead with four runs in the top of the fourth inning.  Back-to-back walks and a throwing error on a bunt loaded the bases with no outs.  Tyler Walter then singled to left to make it a 3-2 game.  Thad Johnson grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring the tying run from third, and a sacrifice fly by Dunn gave the Bonnies the lead.  The last run scored on a Mount error.

Mount starter Chad Diehl (Westminster, Md.) allowed five runs (two earned) in 3.1 innings pitched.   Austin Bonadio (Newtown, Conn.) allowed one run in one inning of relief while Jordan Lawson (Camp Hill, Pa.) tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
