SERIES MOVED TO HARFORD SPORTS COMPLEX: The Mount's three-game series with St. Bonaventure has been shortened to a doubleheader on Sunday at the Harford Sports Complex at Harford Community College. The teams will play a nine-inning game followed by a seven-inning contest beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Mount's field at Straw Family Stadium is not ready for play after last week's snow storm.
MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount will be returning to action for the first time since dropping both games of a doubleheader to Army on March 6th. The Mountaineers lost 11-1 in the opening game before falling 3-2 in eight innings in the nightcap. The games were played in Morehead City, N.C. Senior catcher Andrew Clow leads the Mount with a .370 average while Kory Britton is hitting .357. On the mound, Chad Diehl has had a strong start to the season, going 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA in a pair of starts.
ABOUT THE BONNIES: St. Bonaventure posted a pair of 8-1 victories against Coppin State on Thursday to move to 7-2 on the season. Thad Johnson paces the offense with a .450 average and a team-high eight RBI. Cole Peterson has scored a team-high 10 runs while leading the squad with four stolen bases. On the mound, Drew Teller is 2-0 with a 0.98 ERA in three starts. Johnson is the team's closer, recording three saves in four outings with a 1.69 ERA.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES: The Mount is 5-9 against St. Bonaventure since moving to NCAA Division I in 1989. The teams last met in 2013 when St. Bonaventure won two of three games in Port Charlotte, Fla. The previous season, the teams played a four-game set in Florida with the Bonnies winning three. All 14 games in the series have been played at a neutral site.
CLOW NAMED TO WATCH LIST FOR JOHNNY BENCH AWARD: Mount St. Mary's senior catcher Andrew Clow has been named to the official watch list for the 2015 Johnny Bench Award presented by Baseball Savings. Seventy-five catchers were nominated for the award by their coaches. The award is given by the The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission. Clow was named First Team All-Northeast Conference at catcher last season after tying for the NEC batting lead with a .369 average. He led the Mount with 52 hits while posting a .468 slugging percentage and a .415 on-base percentage. Clow is hitting .370 with a team-high five RBI in the Mount's first eight games this season.
DIEHL OFF TO HOT START: Junior left-hander Chad Diehl is off to a strong start for the Mount. Diehl is 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA in a pair of starts to open the season. He has allowed one earned run and just five hits in 11 innings of work this season, holding the opposition to a .135 average.
OFF AND RUNNING: Outfielder Jay Knight, who sat out the 2014 season due to injury, has a pair of stolen bases this season. Knight is the Mount's all-time leader with 42 career steals. Knight stole a Mount record 32 bases as a junior in 2013.
