Mount Update: The Mount baseball team opens the 2015 season at the Snowbird Baseball Classic. The Mount will play six games in five days in Port Charlotte, Fla., beginning on Saturday against North Dakota State. The Mountaineers finished the 2014 season with a 17-24 overall record and a 10-14 mark in the Northeast Conference. Senior catcher Andrew Clow, a First Team All-NEC selection last year, and senior Kory Britton, a Second Team All-NEC pick, are back to lead the Mount offense. Clow hit .369 with 26 RBI while Britton hit .329 with three home runs and 27 RBI.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES…
vs. North Dakota State: This will be the Mount's first meeting with North Dakota State
vs. Omaha: This will be the Mount's first meeting with Omaha
vs. Northeastern: The Mountaineers are 1-2 all-time against Northeastern, with all three games being played in Florida. The teams split a doubleheader in 2005 with Northeastern posting a 14-3 win in 2006.
vs. Kentucky: This will be the first meeting between the Mount and Kentucky
vs. Maine: Mount St. Mary's is 2-1 all-time against Maine, with wins in 2004 (4-2) and 2005 (7-5) while falling in 2007 (9-8). All three matchups were played in Florida.
vs. Villanova: The Mountaineers are 1-3 all-time against Villanova. The first three meetings were played in Florida with the Wildcats winning a pair in 2007 and another game in 2009. The Mount defeated Villanova, 5-1, on the road in 2011.
Knight Returns: The Mount lineup gets a boost this season with the return of leadoff hitter Jay Knight. The redshirt senior stole 32 bases and scored 44 runs while hitting .345 as a junior in 2013. Knight is the Mount's all-time leader with 40 career steals.
Opening Day: The Mount opened each of the season with a win in each of the past two seasons. Last year, the Mount downed Lehigh, 7-6, in 12 innings while in 2013, the Mount defeated Iona at home, 10-7, in the season opener. This is the latest opening day for the Mountaineers since starting the 2011 season on March 2nd.
Preseason Picks: The Mountaineers were picked to finish sixth in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches poll. Defending champion Bryant was picked to finish in first place, followed by Sacred Heart, Wagner, Central Connecticut, LIU Brooklyn, the Mount and Fairleigh Dickinson.
