Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (October 9, 2015)--The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team battled defending Northeast Conference champion Central Connecticut to a scoreless draw on Friday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium on campus. The game was played in extremely windy conditions with the majority of the first half played in a torrential downpour.
Central Connecticut (5-2-3, 1-0-1 NEC) had the wind advantage in the opening half, and held a 12-to-1 advantage in shots. Mount goalkeeper Rachel Bourne (Baltimore, Md.) made three saves in the half, including a sensational stop when she tipped a Cailynn Harding shot over the cross bar in the 37th minute.
With the wind at their backs, Mount St. Mary's (1-12-1, 0-2-1 NEC) carried play throughout the second half, generating four corner kicks while posting a 5-to-4 edge in shots.
After a scoreless first overtime period, Central Connecticut looked to have scored the game-winning goal off a corner kick with 2:33 left in the second overtime. A handball, however, wiped the goal off the board.
CCSU held an 18-to-7 shot advantage in the game, including a 6-to-1 margin in shots on goal. Bourne finished the game with six saves to earn the shutout victory. Nicki Turley made one save for the Blue Devils.
This is the second consecutive season the two teams have battled to a tie. Last year, the Mount and CCSU tied, 1-1, the final game of the regular season.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday, October 11, with a 1:00 p.m. home game with LIU Brooklyn.
