The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team returns to action this weekend with a pair of Northeast Conference home games.
OPENING WHISTLE: Mount St. Mary's opened Northeast Conference play with a pair of losses last weekend. On Friday, the Mount lost at defending NEC regular season champion Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-0. On Sunday, the Mount saw Saint Francis U rally for a 2-1 win at Waldron Family Stadium. Emma Blair gave the Mount a 1-0 lead in the first half, but the Red Flash scored twice in the second half to earn the win. Blair and Jenna West are tied for the team lead with three goals each this season. The Mount will look to get back in the NEC race with home games against Central Connecticut and LIU Brooklyn this weekend.
CLOSE CALLS AT HOME: Despite a 1-5 home record, the Mount has played tough at Waldron Family Stadium. The Mountaineers have lost four one-goal games at home, including a 2-1 loss to Saint Francis U this past Sunday. The Mount dropped three-consecutive one-goal games at home to Rider (3-2), American (2-1) and High Point (2-1) in late August. The other home contests included a 2-0 loss to Bucknell on Sept. 4 and a 3-0 win over UMBC on Sept. 13.
ABOUT CENTRAL CONNECTICUT: Central Connecticut enters Friday's matchup with a 5-2-2 overall record and a 1-0-0 mark in the Northeast Conference.
* CCSU opened NEC play with a 5-1 home win over LIU Brooklyn on Sunday. Four different players scored in the win as CCSU jumped to a 3-0 halftime lead. LIU scored early in the second half, but the Blue Devils sealed the win with a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes.
* Delaney Lancor leads a balanced scoring attack with three goals and eight points this season. Emma Hubbard has three goals and seven points as nine different players have scored for the Blue Devils on the year. In goal, Nicki Turley has started seven games, posting a 1.31 goals against average and a .809 save percentage.
* The Mount is 3-15-3 all-time against CCSU in the series that began in 1995. Last year, Sam Manson scored in the 67th minute as the Mount tied CCSU, 1-1. Vicky Cocozza (13 saves) and Rachel Bourne (5 saves) combined for 18 saves in the game.
ABOUT LIU BROOKLYN: LIU Brooklyn enters the weekend 3-9-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the Northeast Conference after falling to Saint Francis U (2-1, ot) and Central Connecticut (5-1) last weekend.
* Allegra Ondrejka leads the Blackbirds with four goals while Madison Gomez has a team-high nine points (3g, 3a). Jessica Montrose (7 GP, 3.59 GAA, .656 SV Pct.) and Erin Harbison (6GP, 1.69 GAA, .825 SV Pct.) have split time in the goal. The Blackbirds have been outscored, 32-14, on the season.
* The Mountaineers are have lost the past three meetings with LIU and are 4-13-1 all-time against the Blackbirds. The Mount's last win in the series was a 1-0 decision on Sept. 30, 2011. Two of the past three matchups have gone to overtime.
THE MOUNT AND THE NEC: This is the Mount's 21st season in the Northeast Conference for women's soccer.
* Mount St. Mary's will be looking to qualify for its first NEC Tournament spot since 1997. The Mount qualified for the NEC Tournament from 1995-97, the only three years the school has advanced to the postseason.
* The Mount has a 51-110-15 all-time in NEC regular season games, including a 35-46-9 mark at home.
MOVING UP THE CHARTS: Senior Emma Blair scored her 9th career goal in the Mount's 2-1 loss to Saint Francis U. Blair is now tied for 14th all-time at the Mount in career goals, and needs one more to become the 14th player in school history to double figures in goals.
UP NEXT: The Mountaineers visit Bryant (Oct. 16) ad Sacred Heart (Oct. 18) before heading back home to face Wagner (Oct. 25).
