Box Score Teaneck, N.J. (October 2, 2015)—The Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team opened Northeast Conference play with a 3-0 loss at defending NEC regular season champion Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday night.
The Mountaineers (1-11, 0-1 NEC) had the better scoring chances early with Sam Manson's shot being saved by FDU goalkeeper Felicia Burr in the eighth minute while Brinley Watts had a shot go wide after the Mount earned a corner kick in the 14th minute.
The Knights (7-5, 1-0 NEC) flipped the momentum in the game by generating the next six shots, breaking through in the 24th minute when Rachel Hoekstra converted a rebound of an Amanda Goulet shot for a 1-0 lead. Hoekstra added to the lead with her second goal of the game in the 38th minute when she took a pass from Katey Arathoon and hit the shot from 15 yards out.
Trailing 2-0 at the half, goalkeeper Rachel Bourne kept the Mount in the game with eight second-half saves, including four over the first 20 minutes of the second half. The Mount's Jordan Fine had a shot stopped by Burr in the 80th minute, however FDU countered on a Carly Tice goal in the 82nd minute to extend the lead to 3-0.
FDU held a 31-to-9 advantage in shots in the game, including a 16-to-5 margin in shots on goal. FDU also had the edge in corner kicks, 8-to-3. Bourne finished the game with a season-high 12 saves while Burr made four saves to earn the win.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday with a home matchup against Saint Francis U. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium on campus.
