Kristen Morawski's Late Goal Lifts Mount St. Mary's Past Sacred Heart, 2-1

Fairfield, Conn. (October 18, 2015)—Kristen Morawski's goal in the 85th minute lifted the Mount St. Mary's women's soccer team to a 2-1 win at Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon.  The win stretched the Mount's unbeaten streak to four games (2-0-2).

The game-deciding play started on a free kick from 35 yards out with just under six minutes remaining.  Brinley Watts played the ball into the middle of the penalty box, and found the foot of Morawski, who was able to knock home the game-winning shot.

The Pioneers (4-11-0, 1-5-0 NEC) had tied the game early in the second half when Lindsay Corallo netted a goal on an assist from Dana Cosmedy.  That goal snapped Mount senior goalkeeper Rachel Bourne's personal shutout streak at 413 minutes.  The Mount had posted shutouts in each of the past three games.

The Mount (3-12-2, 2-2-2 NEC) took the lead in the first half when freshman Gianna Pomykacz scored from inside the six-yard box in the 22nd minute.  Nikki Pinto had an assist on the goal.

Sacred Heart held a 19-to-8 advantage in shots in the game, including a 7-to-4 margin in shots on frame.  Bourne made six saves for the Mount in the win while Talia Schwartz made a pair of saves for Sacred Heart.  The Pioneers had 10 corner kicks to the Mount's three in the game.

The Mountaineers return to action on Sunday, October 25, with a 1:00 p.m. home game against Wagner.  The Mount will honor this year's senior class prior to the game.

GAME NOTES:  The Mountaineers have gone 2-0-2 over their past four games with wins over Sacred Heart and LIU Brooklyn with a pair of scoreless ties against Bryant and Central Connecticut…This was the Mount's first road win since a 2-1 victory at Bryant on October 20, 2013…This was the Mount's first win against Sacred Heart since 2008.
