Box Score Smithfield, R.I. (October 16, 2015)—The Mount St. Mary's University women's soccer team earned a 0-0 tie at Bryant on Friday afternoon. Mount St. Mary's goalkeeper Rachel Bourne made eight saves, including a pair of key stops in the closing minutes of regulation, to keep the game scoreless.
Bourne, the reigning Northeast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week, extended her personal shutout streak to just over 342 minutes as the Mount has gone 1-0-2 over its past three games.
The Mount (2-12-2, 1-2-2 NEC) saw Bryant almost win the game in the closing minutes when Scout Benson's shot caromed off the cross bar with just under a minute remaining in the second overtime.
Earlier, the Mountaineers had the two great scoring chances in overtime periods. In the 102nd minute, Kirsten O'Malley saw her shot saved by Bryant goalkeeper Kaylan Conrad. The shot deflected off Bryant goalkeeper Kaylan Conrad and then the post, but was then cleared by the Bryant (4-9-2, 3-1-1 NEC) defense. The Mount had a great scoring chance midway through the first overtime when Kristen Morawski's header off a Sam Manson corner was stopped by diving Conrad.
Bourne made a pair of scintillating saves over the final 10 minutes to force the overtime period. The first came with just over seven minutes remaining when she collected Scout Benson's shot from the middle of the penalty box to keep the game scoreless.
Bourne's next saves was even better as she closed out a Benson breakaway and made a sliding stop with three minutes left in regulation.
Earlier in the half, the Mount had its best scoring chance of the second half when Gianna Pomykacz sent a shot wide after Conrad bobbled a Jenna West shot attempt.
The Mountaineers held a 25-to-21 advantage in shots in the game, including a 9-8 edge in shots on goal. Conrad made eight saves for the Bulldogs. Each team had three corner kicks in the game, and the Mount held a 5-to-4 edge in shots in the overtime periods. Morawski was the most active Mountaineer on offense with six shots, including three on frame. Benson led all players with 10 shots (five on goal).
The Mount continues its two-game road swing with a 1:00 p.m. matchup at Sacred Heart on Sunday.
