Box Score Staten Island, N.Y. (May 4, 2014)--Mount St. Mary's fell to Wagner, 6-2, in the final game of a four-game Northeast Conference series on Sunday afternoon at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The Mount and Wagner split the four-game set.
Wagner (14-29, 7-9 NEC) scored single runs in the first and third innings to grab a 2-0 advantage.
Mount St. Mary's (15-22, 8-12 NEC) evened the score with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Ryan Owens and Chris Del Vecchio singled to open the inning, and Joshua Lenig's sacrifice bunt put the pair in scoring position. Tommy Quealy converted, lacing a single to right field to score both runners to even the score at 2-2.
Wagner, however, scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, and added two more in the eighth, to earn the 6-2 victory.
Quealy finished the day 2-for-3 with two RBI to pace the Mount offense. Andrew Clow, Kory Britton, Zach Hostetter, Lenig, Owens and Del Vecchio each had one hit on the day.
Starter Seth Schubert allowed two runs in five innings of work in a no decision. Scott Nickerson took the loss, allowing two runs in 1.2 innings of relief. Kevin Myers allowed a pair of runs in 0.2 innings, while Nick Riley did not allow a run in 0.2 innings as well.
The Mountaineers have a bye week and will not return to action until hosting Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, May 16, at 3:00 p.m. at E.T. Straw Family Stadium in the opening game of a four-game series.
