Box Score Towson, Md. (April 23, 2014)—Mount St. Mary's fell to Towson, 6-3, in a midweek non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at Towson's John B. Schuerholz Park. Andrew Clow and Brandon Scott each had two hits for the Mount in the game.
The Mount (13-16) took the early lead with a run in the top of the first inning. Scott singled to left with one out, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on Kory Britton's double down the right field line.
Towson answered in the bottom of the inning when Dominic Fratantuono tripled home Kurt Wurtz. The score remained 1-1 until the bottom of the fifth inning when Mike Draper's RBI triple gave Towson a 2-1 advantage.
The Tigers (18-16) added two runs in the sixth to grab a 4-1 lead. The Mount answered with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to 4-3. Chris Del Vecchio's pinch-hit single led off the inning, and Scott doubled to right to put runners at second and third. A Clow base hit scored Del Vecchio to cut the deficit to 4-2. Scott then scored on an error to make it a 4-3 game.
Towson added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to make the final score 6-3.
Mount starter Kevin Myers struck out two while allowing two runs and five hits in five innings of work. Ben Smallenbroek allowed a pair of runs in one inning of relief, while Chad Diehl allowed two runs in two innings of work.
Scott finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Clow added a 2-for-4 day at the plate.
Mount St. Mary's is back in action this weekend with a four-game home series against Northeast Conference leader Bryant. The series starts with a 3:00 p.m. game on Friday at the Mount's E.T. Straw Family Stadium on campus.
