Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. (April 2, 2014)--Mount St. Mary's lost to Bucknell, 6-1, in a non-conference matchup at E.T. Straw Family Stadium on campus on Wednesday afternoon.
Bucknell (13-11-1) scored three times in the third inning to take a 3-0 advantage. Alex O'Neill singled, and moved to second on a Brett Smith walk. Corey Fuman then singled on a bunt to third base to load the bases. An Anthony Gingerelli sacrifice fly provided the game's first run, and Justin Meier added a two-out single to left to plate two more for the three-run lead.
The Mount (6-9) got back into the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Andrew Frazier reached on an infield single, and moved to second on a wild pitch. Ryan Owens moved Frazier to third with a groundout, and Kory Britton's sacrifice fly scored the run.
Gingerelli provided Bucknell with some insurance runs with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh. Smith's sacrifice fly in the eighth rounded out the scoring.
The Mount was held to three hits in the game by four different Bucknell pitchers. Andrew Clow singled in the ninth for the Mount to stretch his hit streak to eight games. Clow leads the Mount with a .392 average this year. Chris Del Vecchio doubled in the third as well.
For the Mount, Scott Nickerson allowed three runs while striking out four in three innings to take the loss. Six relievers then pitched one inning each, with Kevin Myers, Jordan Lawson, Austin Bonadio and Chad Diehl pitching scoreless frames.
Max Kra allowed two hits and one run in six innings to pick up the win. Mike Castellani, Tom Hrabchak and Tucker Rekucki each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Bison.
The Mount begins Northeast Conference play this weekend with a four-game series at Central Connecticut State beginning no Friday, April 4.
