Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Bridgeport, Conn. (April 18, 2014)—Strong pitching led Mount St. Mary's to a doubleheader sweep at Northeast Conference leader Sacred Heart on Friday afternoon.  Freshman Seth Schubert earned his first collegiate win in a 2-1 victory in the opener.  Vincent Molesky's strong start in game two led the Mount to a 6-2 win.

Game One Recap
Mount St. Mary's 2, Sacred Heart 1

Freshman Seth Schubert earned his first career win while Zach Hostetter's two-run single in the first provided the winning runs as the Mount downed Sacred Heart, 2-1, in the opening game of the doubleheader.

Schubert, making his first start of the season, allowed an unearned run in 4.2 innings of work to pick up his first collegiate victory.  Schubert struck out two while allowing three hits in the game.  Mount closer Nick Riley earned his fifth save of the season with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to preserve the win.

The Mount (12-15, 5-6 NEC) broke out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first.  Andrew Clow started the rally with a two-out single, and he moved to second on a Kory Britton base hit through the right side.  Ryan Owens worked a walk to load the bases and Hostetter came through with a clutch base hit up the middle to plate the first two runs of the game.

Sacred Heart (18-14, 5-2 NEC) was able to get a run back in the bottom of the fourth.  The Pioneers loaded the bases on an error, a walk and a base hit, and a Schubert balk allowed a run.

In the bottom of the fifth, Schubert allowed a leadoff hit, but promptly picked off the runner for the first out of the inning.  After a two-out walk, Mount head coach Scott Thomson summoned Riley from the bullpen to close out the game.

Sacred Heart threatened in the final two innings, but could not score off of Riley.  In the sixth, the Pioneers had runners on second and third with two outs but failed to score.  In the seventh, the tying run was on second, but Riley again held Sacred Heart off the scoreboard to get the save.

Britton went 3-for-3 to pace the Mount offense in the game.

Game Two Recap
Mount St. Mary's 6, Sacred Heart 2

Vincent Molesky provided a strong pitching performance in game two as the Mount swept the doubleheader.  Molesky allowed two hits and an unearned run in six innings in the 6-2 victory.

The Mount scored two runs in the top of the fourth to grab a 2-1 lead.  Brandon Scott singled to open the inning.  Andrew Clow and Kory Britton followed with walks to load the bases with no outs.  Scott scampered home on a Ryan Owens RBI groundout, and a Zach Hostetter sacrifice fly plated Clow with the go-ahead run.

Mount St. Mary's added to the lead in the top of the fifth with a Clow two-out single that scored Andrew FrazierTommy Quealy's one-out single started the rally.  After Frazier hit into a fielder's choice, Scott's second base hit of the day put runners on first and second to set the table for Clow.

The Mountaineers sealed the win with three runs in the top of the seventh.  Chris Del Vecchio and Quealy singled with one out to put runners on first and second to start the rally.  Scott then grounded into a fielder's choice to the second baseman, but an error on the shortstop trying to get a double play allowed Del Vecchio to score.  Clow singled to put runners on first and second, and Britton's base hit gave the Mount a four-run lead.  Owens followed with an RBI single to stretch the advantage to 6-1.

Sacred Heart took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the third.  A two-out error preceded a Jesus Medina RBI double that put the Pioneers ahead, 1-0.

Molesky improved to 3-3 on the season for the Mount, striking out six in his six innings.  Nick Riley allowed one run in one inning of work.

At the plate, Clow, Britton and Quealy each went 2-for-3 in the game while Scott went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

The teams conclude the four-game series tomorrow.
