Box Score 2 Emmitsburg, Md. (March 16, 2014)--Mount St. Mary's swept a twinbill against visiting NYIT on Sunday afternoon at E.T. Straw Family Stadium on campus. The Mount won the opening game, 13-4, before taking game two by the score of 7-0. The Mount swept the four-game series to move to 6-5 on the season.
In the opener, the Mount scored eight times in the bottom of the fifth inning to break open a close game. Ryan Owens had an RBI single in the first and the Mount added an unearned run in the second for a 2-0 lead.
After NYIT cut the lead in half with a run in the third, the Mount sealed the win with an eight-run fifth inning. Tyaler Post had an RBI single, Andrew Frazier added a two-run hit, and Andrew Clow also had an RBI single in the frame.
The Mount scored three more times in the sixth while NYIT (0-11) score three in the seventh to make the final score 13-4.
Karl Lamont tossed a complete game, striking out seven with four runs allowed to pick up the victory.
Vince Molesky tossed a two-hit shutout for the Mount in the 7-0 win in game two. Molesky struck out nine while earning his first win of the season.
Zack Hostetter scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the second to give the Mount a 1-0 lead. Brandon Scott's RBI single in the fifth extended the lead to 2-0.
The Mount sealed the win with five runs in the sixth. Clow had a two-run single to highlight the frame.
Clow went 1-for-3 with two RBI for the Mount in the win while Scott was 1-for-2 with two RBI.
The Mountaineers return to action on Wednesday, March 19, with a 3:30 p.m. home game against Bucknell.
