Mount St. Mary's Splits Doubleheader with CCSU on Saturday.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

New Britain, Conn. (May 18, 2013)—Mount St. Mary's scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to earn a 3-2 win over Central Connecticut State in the first game of a twinbill on Saturday afternoon.  The Blue Devils took the nightcap by the score of 3-0.

Vincent Molesky tossed a three-hitter while the Mount (11-36, 6-25 NEC) scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally for the first game victory.  The Mount victory eliminated CCSU from Northeast Conference playoff contention.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the top of the seventh, Zach Smith opened the inning with a single to center field.  Buddy Fields pinch ran, and moved to second on a Brandon Scott sacrifice bunt.  Jay Knight walked, and the Mount then loaded the bases on a CCSU (27-25, 15-16 NEC) error on the short stop.  Mark Quaranta tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center field, and Sam Nott drove home the go-ahead run with a double.

Molesky retired the side in the bottom of the seventh, striking out the final two batters to earn the victory.  Molesky allowed two runs (one earned) with three strikeouts in his three-hitter.

The Mount took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Smith RBI single. CCSU's Tyler McIntyre hit a two-run homer in the fourth to give CCSU the 2-1 advantage.

In the nightcap, CCSU's Nick Neumann tossed a five-hit shutout to lead the Blue Devils to the 3-0 win.  Knight was a thorn in Neumann's side, going 3-for-3 at the plate, but the Mountaineers were unable to bring Knight home in the game.

Jordan Lawson threw a complete game for the Mount, allowing just four hits while allowing three unearned runs.

The teams complete the series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

Game Notes:  Tom Healy, who is in the hunt for the NEC batting title, went 2-for-7 in the doubleheader, and is now hitting .377 on the year…The Mount's single-season record for batting is .388 set by Will Vanjonack in 1999.
