Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 27, 2013)—Mount St. Mary's split a Northeast Conference doubleheader with Fairleigh Dickinson at E.T. Straw Family Stadium on Saturday afternoon.  Jay Knight went 5-for-5 with four runs scored and a home run to pace the Mount to a 17-0 rout in the opening game.  Fairleigh Dickinson used a six-run second inning to bounce back for a 10-4 win in the nightcap.

In the opening game, the Mount gave starter Vincent Molesky all the runs he would need by scoring twice in the bottom of the first.  Knight led off with a walk, stole second base, and eventually came around to score when Tom Healy walked with the bases loaded.  Mo Moriarty's RBI fielder's choice plated Mark Quaranta with the second run.

Mount St. Mary's (9-26, 4-15 NEC) broke the game open with a seven-run second inning.  Nick Walker drove home a pair of runs with a double, and Healy later added an RBI double of his own to make it 6-0.  Moriarty chipped in an RBI single and Zach Smith a two-run base hit to stretch the lead to nine.

Tommy Quealy added an RBI single in the third, and Knight led off the fourth with a solo home run.  Sam Nott made it 12-0 with an RBI single in the fourth as well.

Mount St. Mary's closed out the scoring with a five-run fifth.

Molesky posted his best start of the year, striking out nine while allowing five hits in 6.1 innings of work.  Austin Bonadio finished out the shutout, getting a 4-6-3 double-play with the bases loaded to end the game.

Healy went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three runs scored in the opening game while Quaranta finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored.  All nine starters had hits in the game as the Mount pounded out season highs for hits (19) and runs (17).

The second game started off in the same fashion as the Mount grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.  Knight led off the frame with a double to left field, and he then scored on a Walker base hit.  Walker eventually came around to score from third base on a wild pitch for the second run of the inning.

FDU (10-28, 5-18 NEC) took control of the game with a six-run second inning.  With one out, the Knights strung together five consecutive hits in the inning to take the lead.  Jose DeLeon's RBI single got the scoring started before Kyle Noonan evened the score with an RBI double.  Jordan Ritz followed with an RBI single, Ryan McGrath a sacrifice fly and John Giakas chased Mount starter Jordan Lawson with an RBI double as well.

The Mount got a run back in the bottom of the second on a Walker RBI single, but FDU made the score 7-3 with an unearned run in the fifth.  Healy's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth cut the FDU lead to 7-4, but the Knights scored three times in the seventh to seal the win.

Walker finished game two 3-for-4 with two runs scored, missing hitting for the cycle by a home run.  Healy went 2-for-3 at the plate in the loss.

Lawson allowed six runs in 1.2 innings to take the loss.  Chris Del Vecchio pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.  Chad Diehl allowed three runs (one earned) in 2.2 innings while Buddy Fields allowed an unearned run in one inning of work.

The teams will complete the four-game series tomorrow with a 1:00 p.m. game at E.T. Straw Family Stadium.
