Brooklyn, N.Y. (April 19, 2013)--Mount St. Mary's opened a four-game series at LIU Brooklyn with a 10-3 loss on Friday.  Outfielder Jay Knight had a pair of steals in the loss to tie the Mount's single-season record of 18.

Knight's speed helped the Mount (7-22, 2-11 NEC) to an early 1-0 lead.  The junior opened the game with a single to right field, and then stole second.  Mark Quaranta walked with one out to put runners on first and second, and the Mount had a double steal to put both runners in scoring position.

Knight's second stolen base of the inning gives him 18 on the year, matching Matt Ruecker's single-season record set in both 1991 and 1992.  Sam Nott then lofted a sacrifice fly to bring home Knight the game's first run.

The Blackbirds (11-22, 7-6 NEC) answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout and a passed ball.

LIU then added a single run in the third and broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning.  Tommy Jakubowski had the big hit in the fourth, a two-run double that made the score 6-1.

Zane Bard's RBI single in the top of the fifth got a run back for the Mount, but LIU answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame and one more in the sixth to push the lead to 10-2. 

Nott's second RBI of the game in the eighth rounded out the scoring. 

Tommy Quealy went 2-for-3 for the Mount in the loss while Nott had a pair of RBIs, giving him a team-leading 29 on the year.

On the mound, starter Thomas Williams allowed four runs (two earned) in three innings of work to take the loss.  Austin Bonadio pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

LIU starter Justin Topa tossed a complete game, striking out six.

The teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 1:00 p.m.
