Andrew Clow's RBI Single in Ninth Lifts Mount St. Mary's Past Maryland, 2-1

Box Score

College Park, Md. (April 17, 2013)--Andrew Clow singled home Tom Healy with the go-ahead run to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 2-1 win at Maryland on Wednesday night.

The Mount (7-21) snapped a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the eighth inning to take a 1-0 lead.  Tommy Quealy and Brandon Scott opened the inning with base hits to put runners on first and second with no outs.  Jay Knight moved the runners up with a sacrifice bunt, and Quealy then scampered home on a wild pitch.

Maryland (20-18) answered the Mount run when Jordan Hagel homered to lead off the bottom of the eighth.  The Terrapins then loaded the bases, but Connor Graber got a ground out to end the threat.

Healy singled with one out in the top of the ninth to start the winning rally.  Nick Walker sacrificed Healy to second, and Clow then came through with a clutch single to left to plate Healy with the go-ahead run.

Scott Nickerson came on in relief in the bottom of the ninth, and walked the leadoff hitter.  Charlie White sacrificed the runner to second base, and Nickerson intentionally walked Hagel to put runners on first and second with one out.  Chad Diehl was summoned in relief, but walked the only batter he faced to load the bases.

Mount head coach Scott Thomson then turned to Buddy Fields, who got out of the bases loaded jam with a strikeout and a groundout to send the Mount to the 2-1 victory.

Quealy went 2-for-2 at the plate for the Mount in the win while Knight, Healy, Clow and Scott all had hits in the win.

Graber earned the victory, allowing one run in one inning of relief.  The Mount used 11 pitchers in the game, including starter Thomas Williams and reliever Chris Del Vecchio, who each had two strikeouts in a scoreless inning of work.

The Mount returns to action on Friday with a 3:00 p.m. game at LIU Brooklyn.  The game is the first of a four-game Northeast Conference series with the Blackbirds.
