Loretto, Pa. (November 2, 2013) – Kristen Galligan finished fifth, and Stephanie Borland took seventh to help the Mount St. Mary's women's cross country team place third overall at the Northeast Conference Championships on Saturday. On the men's side, the Mount placed sixth as a team.
Galligan and Borland both earned All-NEC accolades for their performances, becoming the first Mountaineers to accomplish the feat since Megan Kinsella in 2010. It is also the first time the women's program has had multiple All-Conference performers in the same season since 1997.
Galligan put together a time of 19:29 in the 5k, which was good for fifth place individually. Not far behind her, Borland crossed the finish line in 19:39, earning seventh place for the Mount.
The Mount's third-fastest time of the day of 20:23 was turned in by Megan Schott, which helped her finish 16th in the field. In 33rd place, Maria Borland clocked in at 21:13 for fourth on the Mount, while McKenzie Doyle was 44th overall with a time of 21:40.
As a team, the women scored 104 points. Sacred Heart won the team competition with a score of 44 thanks to three runners finishing in the top eight. Bryant's Eimear Black won the race by a wide margin with her time of 17:46 besting the second best-runner, Sacred Heart's Brianna Castrogivanni, by more than a minute.
Paced by two runners in the top 25, the Mount men's team secured sixth place overall with 149 points.
Jesse Langton was the first Mountaineer to cross the finish line, clocking in at 28:35 in the 8k to place 20th overall. Just 14 seconds after Langton finished, Chris Jewell turned in a 25th place finish with a time of 28:49.
Shane Holcomb's time of 29:13 earned him 32nd place, while Kieran Tonero took home 44th overall in 30:14.
Rounding out the Mount's top five on the day was Jesse Albright and his 30:32 time for 47th place.
Central Connecticut State had runners finish first, second and third en route to a team championship with 23 points. Individually, Craig Hunt led the pack with a time of 26:23.
Next time out, the Mount heads to the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships in Bethlehem, Pa. on Nov. 15.
