MOUNT UPDATE: Mount St. Mary's split a four-game series at Fairleigh Dickinson last weekend, winning the first two games before dropping the final two. Mo Moriarty had a big weekend for the Mount, hitting .429 with a home run and three RBI. Michael Foster drove in seven runs, including a grand slam in the Mount's 9-5 win in the second game. Mark Quaranta leads the Mount with a .348 average while he is tied with Foster for the team lead with 30 runs scored. Josh Winter is hitting .300 with team highs of seven home runs and 41 RBI. On the mound, Karl Lamont is 2-6 with a 4.73 ERA in 13 appearances (10 starts) while Brady Feigl is 2-4 with a 3.92 ERA in eight starts.
CENTRAL CONNECTICUT STATE UPDATE: Central Connecticut State enters the weekend 24-22 overall and 15-13 in the Northeast Conference. The Blue Devils are one game ahead of Wagner for the final NEC playoff spot. JP Sportman leads the offense with a .323 average while adding six home runs and 25 RBI. Tyler McIntyre has a team-best eight home runs while Mitch Wells leads the squad with 29 RBI. On the mound, Jack Greenhouse is 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA in nine starts while Harry Glynne is 2-3 with a 4.00 ERA in 54.0 innings of work. Josh Ingham is the closer, with a 1.11 ERA and seven saves in 16 appearances.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES vs. CCSU: Central Connecticut State holds a 24-20 lead in the all-time series with the Mount that began in 1998. The Blue Devils took three of four from the Mountaineers last year, capturing the final three games of the series. Mount St. Mary's is 16-11 against CCSU since 2005, including a 6-5 mark at home.
LAST YEAR AGAINST CCSU: Central Connecticut State won three of four games in the season series last year. The Mount won the opener, 3-2, behind a strong pitching performance from Max Brittenham (9 IP, 5K, 1ER). Dave Krasnowiecki tossed a three-hit shutout in a 4-0 win in the second game for CCSU. The Blue Devils scored five runs in the bottom of the first en route to a 7-4 win in game three of the series while rolling to an 11-3 win in the final game on Sunday. Kyle Kane and Brandon Scott each went 5-for-13 (.385) in the series for the Mount.
CAREER NUMBERS AGAINST THE CCSU: Michael Foster has a .370 (10-for-27) career average against CCSU…Josh Winter is 9-for-35 (.257) with eight RBI in 10 games vs. the Blue Devils…Dan Horner pitched 3.1 scoreless innings against CCSU last year.
WINTER REACHES 40 RBI: Senior first baseman Josh Winter leads the Mount and is tied for the Northeast Conference lead with 41 RBI this season. It is just the eighth time since the Mount moved to NCAA Division I that a player has reached the 40-RBI plateau. The school record for RBI in a season is 64 set by Josh Vittek in 2008. For his career, Winter's 112 RBI are fifth on the Mount's all-time list while he is seventh all-time with 167 career hits. Winter is seventh all-time at the Mount with 36 doubles and second with seven triples.
HIT PARADE: Junior Mark Quaranta is tied for third in the NEC with 62 hits while he is second with a .348 average. Quaranta has 30 runs, 33 RBI, 11 doubles and 25 walks on the year as well. His career .329 average is seventh on the Mount's all-time list.
FOSTER'S DEFENSE: Senior Michael Foster is now the Mount's all-time leader with 324 career assists. Foster has played second and third base for the Mount this season, and is tied for the team lead with 54 assists. At the plate, Foster is hitting .287 with 30 runs scored and 25 RBI.
SEASON RECORDS: Mark Quaranta's 62 hits this season are the seventh-best single-season mark in Mount history…Josh Vittek's 80 hits in 2008 are the school record…Michael Foster's 195 at bats this season are the sixth-most in a single season in school history…The school record is 219 set by Ivor Hodgson in 2007.
WALKER CATCHING FIRE: Shortstop Nick Walker has been hot at the plate of late for the Mount with a .364 average over the past 14 games. He has six doubles and two home runs in the 14-game stretch, good for a .727 slugging percentage. For the season, Walker is hitting .238 with 11 doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI.
MORIARTY THRIVING IN NEC PLAY: Mo Moriarty has been the Mount's top hitter in NEC games this season. Moriarty is hitting .343 with two home runs and a .493 slugging percentage in NEC play this season. For the season, Moriarty has a .323 average in 38 games played (29 starts).
